The Right Tool-September 2005 The writing ministry of Pastor Frank Keeler
A while back this little article appeared on the front page of the Corning California Observer. ?If today?s edition of the Observer appears to be neater, cleaner, and nicer it is because of our fabulous new high speed Web press which was christened locally with this issue. If today?s edition does not look neater, cleaner, and nicer it is because no one here understands how to use our fabulous new high speed press.? If this month?s edition of the Cornerstone Connection appears to be neater, cleaner and more colorful, it is because of our fabulous new Sharp AR-BC260 color printer, copier, scanner which we are christening with this issue. If this month?s edition of the Cornerstone Connection does not look neater, cleaner and more colorful.., well, you get the picture.

The truth is that it doesn?t matter how wonderful a tool or piece of equipment is if you never use it or if you don?t know ho to use it. If you don?t know how to turn on a computer you can have a zillion gigabytes on your hard drive and it still won?t help. Conversely, if you know everything there is to know about your computer but never turn it on it is just a waste of space. In spiritual terms, God has given us all of the tools we need to have victory in the spiritual battle we call life. It is critical that, as believers, we understand and use the tools He has given. Of all the tools that we have but don?t understand and/or neglect I believe that prayer is one that we can and should take advantage of. Prayer produces more powerful life in the Lord. The Bible tells us that we all have the potential to have a powerful prayer life.
The prophet Elijah had powerful prayer life. Elijah prayed and the rains stopped, Elijah prayed again and the rains came again. Elijah prayed and fire came down from heaven. To me the amazing thing about Elijah?s prayer life is that the Bible says that Elijah was really no different from us. James 516-18 says, ?The prayer of a righteous man powerful and effective. 7Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.?
The Bible says that Elijah prayed ?earnestly.? I wish that that described my prayer life and probably the prayer life of many believers today. There is no real formula for prayer. What truly matters is the passion that you have for communicating with your creator. The brilliant scientist, Sir Isaac Newton, said that he could take his telescope and look millions and millions of miles into space. Then he added. ?But when I lay it aside, go into my room, shut the door, and get down on my knees in earnest prayer, I see more of heaven and feel closer to the Lord than if I were assisted by all the telescopes on earth.? It is my hope that we will not neglect the incredible tool of prayer but pursue God passionately. He does hear us and he does respond.
God Bless,
Frank
Psalms 61:1-2
1 Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
2 From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
?Prayer to God is the most powerful force in this whole universe.?
