Being Broken to be Used in Prayer

Bible Study on Prayer

?In return for my Love they are my accusers, but I give myself to prayer.? ( Psalm 109:4 ).

David, in this Psalm is giving of his love and in return, they accuse him. In addition, for his good towards others they reward him with evil and hatred for his love (Psalm 109:5 ). We as Christians need to endure hard times to grow up in our faith and character. God will use the devil, Satan, which he created for his purpose to accomplish good things in us. Although the enemy thinks he is winning, he never wins against those who believe in the Lord Jesus, and walk an obedient life towards His written word.

David, as well as all the servants of God had to be broken in order to be used and heard in prayer. Those who believe are His children, His servants, His saints; His friends and all of them must be broken to be used. Broken from who we where in life and what we hold on or fast too, to become a new creation, a transformation into the spiritual world of Jesus Christ. The scriptures say, ?Who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself? (Phil 3:21 ), Jesus will accomplish this by means of the Holy Spirit. We do not want to be conformed to the world and its standards but transformed to the image of God. God says, ?do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God? (Rom.12:2 ). Once the Holy Spirit is given to you and dwells in you, then it is the time that you can begin your new walk and seek the perfect will of God He has for you.

Does God call you and start the brokenness before you are saved? Yes, and the bible says, ?And when He (Holy Spirit) has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment? (John 16:8 ). Sin because people do not believe in Jesus Christ, righteousness because Jesus left to the father to make us righteous, and of judgment because the ruler of this world, Satan, is judged (John 16:9, 11 ). I believe based on my life and many other life?s that God can and will protect you for a certain time, which you might be saved. Now of course if you reject, which you can, the convictions you only allow your heart to be hardened. He will give you many opportunities to receive His grace, freely given. He will even bring trials, tribulations, and challenges to your life, so that He may draw you to repentance of your sins. Romans 8 verse 29 says, ?For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.? This predestination is an ongoing thing until the Lord?s return. Everyone, who is not saved and born again, has the opportunity to receive Jesus and be predestined for eternal salvation in heaven.

?The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit? (Ps 34:18 ). A person who is filled with pain, burdens, and is pressed with worries, whose soul is headed for destruction. As a Christian we may have to go through much suffering but the Lord says, ?Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all? (Ps 34:19 ).
God tells us that He has no partiality, ?For there is no partiality with God? (Rom 2:11 ).
?But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality? (Col 3:25 ). Jesus rebuked the people of Israel who did not believe and said ?You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you? (Acts 7:51 ). The Holy Spirit is busy all the time convicting the world of sin, so that brokenness might happen and their ways would be known to them, for repentance can take place. Until this brokenness happens, many will resist and believe not in Jesus Christ and suffer the consequences.

People think they can bypass what the Lord proclaims in the gospels, by accepting Him just to get it over with, or buying their way into heaven or some other works or deeds. ?But Peter said to him, ?Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity? (Acts 8:20-23 ). The devil has his stronghold on you and grips tight to you and you are in bondage because of your evil ways, desires and lustful thoughts. You need to be broken and the only way this can happen is if you make the choice. An alcoholic has to decide if he wants to get better and be sober. If he makes this decision then he must follow the pattern that will help him, the instructions, and have a guide to help him. However, as long as he or she pretends and fakes their decision it will show, he or she will not bear the fruit of a sober person, who is truly sober. This is the same with the man/women who decides to react and respond on the pain and decide to get help, because he or she is tired of being in bondage to sin, to their destructful ways.
The Lord Jesus when he came and died on the cross did it because He loves His creation. ?The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart-These, O God, You will not despise? (Ps 51:17 ). He will not despise those who are the same and come to Him humbly, and broken. Ahab in 1 kings 21 did wicked things against the Lord but when he heard what the Lord was going to do to him and all who were involved he responded with a repentive heart, he was broken because of the challenge brought before him. He did not reject, or resist the conviction of the Holy Spirit but accepted it. In 1 Kings 21 verse 29 it says, "See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days. In the days of his son I will bring the calamity on his house." There were still consequences for his ways but the Lord forgave him. It is the exact same today because the Lord never changes; He is the same yesterday, today and forever. You will always reap the consequences for your sinful ways whether you?re a believer or a non-believer, but you can be forgiven and God will change your heart and wipe away all the past sins and you will be able to start a brand new life, as a born again saint. And I want to mention that His Grace, mercy and compassion is strong enough to help you out of messes that you cause, believe me I know this first hand. The consequences always pass and the favor of God is beautiful to release us from dept and put us on a narrow path of justification and righteousness.

The bible gives warning to people who are in the company of the Holy brethren as the unbelieving Jewish were in the generation which perished in the wilderness without ever seeing the land of promise. Who were and are today, being told to believe and be saved before it is too late. ?Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God? (Heb 3:12 ). Now we are all born with an evil heart, yet if the devil is able to manifest in you an evil of unbelief towards the gospel, then he knows that you will be drawn away in the opposite direction. You will build for yourself a hardened heart. ?Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: ?Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness? (Heb 3:7, 8 ). Allow the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit to give you a heart of brokenness, that your prayer life would be beyond simply praying and getting it over with, be born again and broken, so that the Father hears your prayers.

Read Ephesians 4:17-19
