To determine whether to wash your satin evening gown, you must check the label on the gown. Washing instructions depend on the type of fibers that make up the gown. Some satin fabrics should be dry cleaned. You'll find the best way to clean your dress on the care tab.

mild laundry detergent
iron or steamer
automatic dryer
enzyme based detergent
Washing machine or large sink for hand washing

Instructions and Pre-Treatment of Stains
Wash your satin dresses on a gentle cycle with mild detergent in cool water. Pull items out if possible, or immediately after the dryer is turned off. Your dryer should be set to the lowest temperature possible, or you can use a drying rack.
If your washing machine does not have a delicate cycle, hand wash the gown in a large sink or tub. When ironing skirts, use the low to medium heat setting.
If your satin dress has noticeable stains, pre-treat the stain with an enzyme-based stain remover. Gently massage the remover into the gown with your fingers. Then, let it rest and work its magic for ten minutes before washing the dress.
Make sure to treat the stain immediately. You don't want it to blend into the fabric.

Store your satin dress in a clean cotton pocket. If you don't have cotton pockets, roll the gown into a cotton pillowcase. Follow the same steps if you have satin sheets or other satin items.
