Der Adidas Superstar ist eine der ikonischsten Silhouetten im Sneaker-Universum. Ein Rap-Trio aus der Bronx widmete den
Sneakern sogar einen eigenen Song. Die Kolumne Sneak Around. 1986 rappten Run-DMC: „My Adidas only bring good news.
And they are not used as selling shoes. They’re black and white, white with black stripe. The ones I like to wear
when I rock the mic.“ Das Lied widmete die Hip-Hop-Band einem Turnschuh: dem Adidas Superstar.
Getragen wurde der Sneaker vermehrt seit Ende der siebziger Jahre von Hip-Hoppern und Rappern in der Bronx. Damals wurde
der Adidas Superstar in Herzogenaurach billig ab verkauft. Die Nachfrage in den Vereinigten Staaten wuchs in den
Achtzigern immer weiter. Adidas bot Run-DMC – nach Veröffentlichung des Liedes und einer ausverkauften Show im
Madison Square Garden – einen Deal über eine Million Dollar an; zum ersten Mal bekamen Musiker einen
AusrĂĽstungsvertrag eines Sportartikelherstellers. Die Rapper trugen die Adidas Superstars ohne SchnĂĽrsenkel
– wie Häftlinge in amerikanischen Gefängnissen, wo alles verboten ist, was als Waffe oder für einen Suizid
eingesetzt werden könnte, weshalb die Insassen mit offenen Schuhen umherlaufen mussten. Ende der achtziger Jahre
entwickelte sich ein Stil daraus.
Der Adidas Ultrastar kam auf den Markt, die Run-DMC-Version des Superstars. Er hatte einen elastischen Riemen, der das Tragen ohne Schn
ürsenkel erleichterte. Seitdem zeigt Adidas immer wieder die Nähe zu Stars aus dem Hip-Hop, wie zum Beispiel zu
Pharrell Williams und Kanye West. Entworfen wurde der Superstar ursprĂĽnglich nicht fĂĽr die StraĂźen der Bronx, sondern
für den Basketballplatz. In den sechziger Jahren wurde der Schuh (damals bekannt als „Supergrip“) zu einer echten
Performance-Technologie. |
