April 8 - He Takes Away Our Sin
"And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin." 1 John 3:5
To a prisoner on death row or a cancer patient on death’s door the words "you are free" have added meaning. To the prisoner the words "you are free" carry with it the promise of life outside the prison walls and the knowledge that they do not have to walk into the death chamber. To the cancer patient the words "you are free" tell her that she is free of cancer and she can resume life with all the hope and freedom that comes with a cancer free life.
Jesus came to set prisoners free and cure the cancer of sin in our lives. The prisoner is not caught up in trivial things, for if he is indeed guilty of his crimes he knows that a pardon is a gift of mercy and grace. He has no room to boast or brag as though he did something for himself. We all were guilty before the throne of heaven and Jesus was manifested so that He might take away our sins.
Jesus came to heal the sick that are infirmed and desperately sick from sin and its consequences. The cancer patient is not caught up in the petty fights and political wrangling of the hospital staff, they are only interested in getting well and spending their time wisely. We who were once deathly ill from sin were given the cure in Christ Jesus. In Jesus there is no sin, He is the perfect One.
