April 7 - The Same Message
"And you shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, 'Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.'" (Exodus 19:12)
Moses was often warning the people of pending doom and warning them to obey God or they would suffer the consequences. As a matter of fact, this type of preaching was more often the norm.
Paul penned great and stirring epistles that were intended to bring Christians to maturity. Though it is clear that not all have the same “Biblical” knowledge, it is also clear that everyone in the first century church was hearing and reading some of the most powerful teaching and preaching by the Apostles. The Apostles did not change or tailor their message if there were non-Christians in the audience. They boldly proclaimed the message of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Paul told the Colossians: "And when this letter is read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans; and you, for your part read my letter that is coming from Laodicea." (Colossians 4:16) Have you read Colossians? It is not exactly "seeker-sensitive." Do I have anything against churches who want to be welcoming and friendly and community oriented in order to display the love of Christ? No. I do have something against anyone who would underestimate the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit of God lives in us and is there to teach us deep spiritual truths. But how can we learn these deep truths if churches and pastors keep it from us?
