January 11, 2006 - Helping Hand
If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? - James 2:15 - 16
There are many who come to the church asking for handouts, and it is really easy to get cynical and reject people's pleas for food or money. Either a Church will so focus on meeting the physical needs of a person that they forget all about the preaching of the gospel of Jesus. Other Churches may so focus on evangelism that they forget about providing for the physical needs of members of the Body of Christ.
We must never focus on "a" truth, no matter how good it may be and forsake "THE" Truth, Jesus Christ. It is imporant to be led by the Holy Spirit to meet the physical needs of people. We must never let a hungry mouth be left unsatisfied if we can do something about it. But we she make sure that spiritual "tummys" are fille with the Word of God.
