But what does thanksgiving really mean? Well, at face value it means "giving" thanks. But thanks to to who and for what? We all know the story of the Pilgrims and the Native people of America sharing a meal and giving thanks to God. All through the centuries there have been celebrations of thanks to a number of so-called deities. But do people today really thank God? Every holiday a Christian celebrates really comes down to one thing.

The one thing that we should give thanks for is the salvation that Jesus Christ brought to us through His sacrifice on the Cross. Sure, we can be thankful for food, clothing, the new car in the driveway, but surely we do not need a whole day of thanksgiving just to thank God for family and food. Do we?

The reality of the holiday is that it is no different than any other day. We should celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ each day. We should give thanks and praise to God every day, praising Jesus Christ and thanking Him for saving us. It should be done on birthdays, Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. If we are going to celebrate any holiday, it should be focused on Jesus Christ our Lord. There is no shortage of thankfulness that we have in our heart to give to Him daily. This Thanksgiving, give thanks, above all else, for Jesus.
