Christians and Homosexuality

mannman.png When a majority of Californians voted to ban gay marriage it shook the homosexual community and its supporters. What is interesting about the story is that it was passed in a liberal blue state. Many wonder why so many chose to ban it when most publicly support the homosexual agenda. What could be the reason? How should Christians react to this news? Many will no doubt celebrate, but a true Christian grieves over the tragedy of a whole group of people openly rejecting God and the "natural use" of men and women. Paul the Apostle addresses the issue of homosexuality and goes to the root of the problem.

The problem is not political, ethical or moral, but spiritual. The issue for Paul is so great that he makes it one of the first subjects he addresses. Romans chapter 1 verses 18 and 19 says: "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them." God has shown them the truth and the sad fact is that many "choose" to reject that truth. But homosexuality is not the beginning of the darkness that people dwell in it is the end. Paul declares the startling truth that because God has revealed Himself to everyone through their inner man and through creation and because His Godhead or Divine Nature are clearly seen that He turns them over to their own darkened hearts.

Instead of worshiping the true Creator and God they choose to serve and worship nature and idols (images, statues, famous people, ext.), those things that God Himself created. Everything God created and deserves our worship and the true nature of the problem is not homosexuality but a complete rejection of God. Read Romans chapter one on your own and then look at the headlines and watch the news programs and you will begin to understand the true nature of the issue. We can ban homosexual marriage or even ban homosexuality completely, but that does not address the real issue. Only the gospel of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit can bring someone back from the darkness.
