Christian Viewpoint : Obama Wins the Election, Now What? |
With the elections over and now that the dust has settled, what is next for our country? More importantly, what is in store for Christians. Many who voted for Obama where drawn by the word "change." And to be sure, change is sometimes a good thing. Changing from darkness to light is a good change. Changing from drugs and alcohol to being born again and filled with the Holy Spirit is most definitely a good change. But not all change is good.
Some Christians to whom I talked to said that they were not voting for McCain, but for Obama. To them "change" was a deciding factor. To be sure, it is historic that a bi-racial candidate won the election for President, but if he was the only black candidate then I would say it was truly historic. There was another person running for president. Alan Keyes, a black man and the nominee for the American Independent Party, who previously tried to get the Republican nomination, was also running. Someone who I talked to, who is a black Republican, told me that he was voting for Alan Keyes because he prayed about it and Mr. Keyes most represents his values and position. Even if that meant McCain could possibly lose I believe it goes to the heart of being a Christian. You must vote as the Lord leads, and vote for someone who best represents your values and position.
Even though the person you would least like in the White House might in fact win because many would choose to vote their conscience, it is still the best option. God is in full control and we need a party and candidates who will speak for us and speak for righteousness and holiness. A Christian is who we want in the White House. But not just any Christian, but a Christian who understands that when you are doing things according to the Word of God the nation prospers. The Bible is still the standard that God will judge the nations and it is the only book we need to follow when deciding who we are going to vote for.

However, as Christians and Americans we will be held accountable for how we exercised the governing authority given to us, our vote. |

I also prayed, like the person you mentioned in the article, to determine who God wanted me to vote for. I had no idea who to vote for the morning of election day as not many candidates believed as I believed. Knowing that regardless of the outcome, God is in control is a blessing. I am thankful to know that God puts people in power to govern the nations. |
