If you are playing Path of Exile's Gauntlet mode and want to progress smoothly through the story or even surpass it, don't forget to prepare and utilize Mercs (mercenaries). These Mercs can greatly assist you in overcoming tougher stages by providing strong support to your character. In this article, we will share practical tips and important points on how to wisely prepare Mercs to help you face challenges more confidently .
First, it is recommended to recruit at least two Mercs during your leveling process, ideally at character levels 20 and 40. It is important to note that you can recruit Mercs up to 20 levels higher than your character, which means that even when your character isn't strong yet, you can boost your combat power with higher-level Mercs. Moreover, when your character dies in battle, your next character can still use these Mercs, providing steady support for future adventures.
Second, Mercs don't just help you kill enemies; some can carry equipment that your character can pick up and use. Compared to relying purely on loot drops, securing gear through defeating Mercs can significantly improve your character's gear quality and stats. Many players share that combining Decoy Totems with Mercs in group fights is extremely effective—it can draw enemy fire while your Mercs output damage safely, and even farm high-quality equipment.
Next, let's talk about Merc growth and farming locations. Different maps and story chapters spawn Mercs with different levels and in different spots. Finally, investing in your Mercs' growth and equipment is equally essential.
