World of Warcraft first launched Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley on June 7, 2005. They were the first two battlegrounds in the game. And now as of December 10, 2019, players will be able to experience them in WoW Classic. Warsong Gulch is a 10 versus 10 capture the flag battleground. It offers a more focused small team based experience as compared to the 40 v 40 player epic battleground environment of Alterac Valley. There is an unlimited number of matches possible. Queues will pop so long as there are enough enemy players in the queue waiting to fight. Without a cross-server queue system, prime time battles will tend to be more easily available as a result.

Warsong Gulch (from Silverwing Sentinels faction) location is a special PvP Battleground Instance placed somewhere in the southern region of Ashenvale forest, that allows 20 players to form into two 10-men teams to compete in a capture-the-flag contest. Each player that reaches level 10 is able to take part in this competition, allowing twinks to have some fun as well.

Warsong is a simple concept, but its simple nature has led to a deep meta with many different strategies that teams can employ to try and win. One of the most appealing things about Warsong as a battleground is that every class serves a well-defined and needed purpose, meaning everyone has a place. The game itself is generally broken down into having offense and defense. The delicate balance between offense and defense is what makes the battleground so interesting and is one of the defining aspects of the meta. Every class has its place however, and part of being successful both in groups and while solo queuing is playing to your class's strengths.
