Need Jesus? >>> Are you a Christian?

Daily Verse
January 8, 2006 - Can You Believe It?

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. - 1 John 4:1

There are so many ideas, philosophies, and people who want our attention and allegiance, but we must stand firm in our loyalty to Jesus Christ and our convictions from the Word of God. Can we, or should we, believe in all the different voices we hear on Christian TV, or Christian books, or Christian schools, or for that matter, should you listen to me? We should not be cynical, but we should be discerning. Why should a man or woman of God feel threatened when someone challenges their philosophies or theology. Do we have to be mean or not use our intellect when listening to these voices? I think that John is clear that in order to find out if someone is from God we must test them. This involves time, effort and our intellect. We must work hard in order not to believe every spirit. We must fully engage the Word of God and fully pray about the things we see and hear. Don't let laziness lead you to a false teaching or worse. Work hard and challenge what you hear. Do so with love and patience, but do not believe every spirit, only believe in God.
