Need Jesus? >>> Are you a Christian?

Daily Verse
July 11, 2005 Help My Unbelief

“Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.’ Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, ‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!’” Mark 9:23 – 24

How many times have you prayed about a situation only have someone tell you that you have to have faith or that you must believe with all your heart? You want to believe but you are having a hard trust in the Lord. Perhaps it is not even a matter of trust only a weakness on your part. You want to have faith but everything around you says that it cannot be fixed.

Enter in Jesus. The man in Mark 9 had a son who convulsed and often through himself in the fire. Jesus asked the man how long this had been going on and the man answered and said, “since childhood.” Do you think Jesus didn’t already know how long the father had been dealing with his son? Of course He did. He knows how long you have been suffering with that back pain, or that lust problem, or that greed problem. Jesus want to make sure the man understood that the problem was huge and that nothing and no one had helped, not even the disciples.

The text today says that when Jesus said “all things are possible to him who believes” that the man “immediately” yelled out with tears streaming, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” Note two things here: first, the man called Jesus “Lord,” and second understood that he did have belief, he did know it was Jesus and He was Lord, but that he didn’t trust Jesus fully. If we would only admit our weaknesses then Jesus could help us.
