Earlier in September Ubisoft had formally announced the much rumoured Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The announcement was made at the company's Ubisoft Forward event. The developer had acquired the rights to the Prince of Persia franchise from Mattle Interactive in 2003 and has since then sold over 14 million copies made into a blockbuster film and has even got a line of Lego sets affiliated with it. According to a report in Nintendo Enthusiast at that time Ubisoft only stated that the game would be coming to PlayStation 4 Xbox One and PC in January.
In September the long-rumoured Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was officially announced for Xbox One PlayStation 4 and PC.While there was no formal mention of a Nintendo release a Ubisoft Twitter account at the time posted and then removed a tweet making reference to a Switch version. Pre-orders for a Switch copy of the game also temporarily went live and this followed with box art surfacing online. To top it off another two retailer listings for a Nintendo Switch version of the game have now appeared in Greece (thanks Nintendo Life user Geobros).
Debuting in 1989 Prince of Persia tends to show up every decade or so to remind everyone why it is one of the greatest but also most inconsistent platformer franchises of all time. Whether during the '90s or 2000s this iconic series has a habit of squandering its momentum; however when Prince of Persia is at its best few properties come close to matching it.Currently owned by Ubisoft Prince of Persia has been effectively on the bench since 2010 although things should change once The Sands of Time remake is released. |
